  • Chess enthusiasts aged 5 and up. 

    All students of every level are welcome, those just starting from the beginning, those who have been playing for a few months/years but have no tournament experience, and those who are tournament regulars.

  • USCF Rated Chess Players and Teachers, who want to share their knowledge and love of the game with their students.

  • K-1 (45/50 minutes)

    Grades 2-5 (1 hour)

    Middle School (1 hour)

  • Students are divided into groups based on their levels. Each teacher will prepare a weekly lesson, to present on the demonstration board. After the lesson students will partake in a variety of chess centered activities.

    Tournament Games/Analysis (with notation for intermediate players) - A friendly weekly tournament, where students will play against each other. The games will at times be analyzed in front of the whole class to help students learn from their mistakes.

    Puzzle Solving Competition – Students will race against the clock to solve as many puzzles as they can

    Guess the Move - Analysis of famous games on the demonstration board.

    Chess Trivia – Students will be split into teams to answer questions about Chess history and the material they are learning in class.

    Chess Variants – Students will learn the rules to popular chess variants : Give away, Atomic Chess, Bughouse, Blitz and more.

    Simul Survival – One coach will challenge all the students simultaneously

    Chess Bingo - Students will compete to complete the tasks on the bingo board in their games.

  • Yes! All students will receive a prize at the end of the semester.

  • 8-12 weeks (depending on school schedule)

  • The teacher and students will set goals during the first class to determine what level of growth the sessions will aim to achieve. Each class will have a 40 minute prepared lesson, with time left at the end of the class for tactical puzzles, chess studies, mazes, endgame puzzles or practice games.

  • Private Lesson: 80

    Semi Private: 60 per child

    Group Lesson (3 students) : 40 per child

    Group Lesson (4 students) : 35 per child

    Group Lesson (5-6 students) : 30 per child

  • Our Head coaches are trained in CPR and First Aid certified. 

    Covid Policies: All staff and students must meet the then-current minimum vaccination requirements outlined by the Key to NYC program. We will be following all CDC, DOH, and NYC guidelines in regards to cleaning, masking, and social distancing. Please note that this is subject to change throughout the summer.

    We do not have a nurse on staff and our teachers are not allowed to dispense medicine to campers. 

  • Cancelations for the CBE afterschool program must be made a week before the program starts. If you decide to withdraw from the class at any point a 50 percent refund will be provided.
