Wednesday:
K-1 PAWNS + KNIGHTS
In this class we will learn how to move all of the pieces, explore checkmating strategies and patterns, study opening principles, and drawing techniques. Each week we will dive into a lesson, followed by guided play to help reinforce the material covered in class. Returning students will be introduced to tactical ideas (pins, forks, discover attack, removing the defender, x-rays) and middlegame planning. At the end of the semester prizes will be awarded to each student to showcase their individual growth.
All Students will be provided with a basic ChessKid Account
The semester will run for 10 weeks on Wednesdays from 3:45-4:35
Dates: September 10th - December 3rd
(Class not meeting: 9/24, 10/1, 11/26)

2-5 PAWNS + KNIGHTS
Students will be introduced to tactical principles such as forks, pins, x-rays, removing the defender, two-move mate and discovered attack. We will study famous games to learn about attacking principles and middle- game plans, as well as dive into simple endgame principles. Each week students will participate in a chess lesson, solve puzzle worksheets, play in a class tournament using chess notation, and learn about fun chess variants! At the end of the semester all students will receive prizes that showcase their individual growth.
All Students will be provided with a GOLD ChessKid Account
A tournament excursion will be organized for all interested students.

In this class we will study tactical principles by learning about tactical weaknesses and forcing moves : X-rays, Discovered Attacks, Forks, Pins, and Removing the Defender. We will introduce middle- game planning and study famous checkmating patterns. Each week we will dive into a new lesson for the first half of class and then play practice games to reinforce the material that we’ve been learning. In addition students will work on puzzle worksheets, and begin to learn about chess notation. At the end of the semester all students will receive prizes that showcase their individual growth.

Students will be introduced to advanced tactical principles such as removing the defender, discovered attack, clearance, attraction, interference, and deflection. We will study famous games to learn about attacking principles and middle- game plans, as well as dive into simple endgame principles. Each week students will participate in a chess lesson, solve puzzle worksheets, play in a class tournament using chess notation, and learn about fun chess variants! At the end of the semester all students will receive prizes that showcase their individual growth.

Thursday:
2-6 Advanced Class
This class is intended for students who are rated U1000 or are ready to start playing rated chess tournaments. Students will be focusing on learning opening theory, understanding positional imbalances, endgame technique and training calculation. We will encourage students to bring in their games from tournaments to analyze in class together. Students will practice with clocks and notation when playing our friendly class tournament. At the end of the semester prizes will be awarded to each student to showcase their individual growth. This class will have only 10 spots.
All Students will be provided with a Gold ChessKid Account
The semester will run for 11 weeks on Thursday from 5:00-6:00.
